The European
Commission (EC) said on Friday its flash estimate revealed the consumer
confidence indicator for the euro area dropped 0.9 percentage points to -14.5 in March from an unrevised -13.6 in the previous month. That was the lowest
reading since December 2024 (-14.5).
Economists
had expected the index to improve to
-13.0 early this month.
Considering the
European Union (EU) as a whole, the consumer sentiment indicator fell 1.0 percentage point to -13.9 in March.
Given this month’s declines, both
indicators veered further away from their long-term averages again.
