The Commerce
Department informed on Wednesday that its advance estimate showed that U.S.
wholesale inventories declined 0.5 per cent m-o-m in December 2024, following an
upwardly revised 0.1 per cent m-o-m drop (from -0.2 per cent m-o-m) in November
2024. This marked the steepest monthly
fall in inventories since March 2024 (-0.5 per cent m-o-m).
Economists had predicted
a 0.2 per cent m-o-m advance.
According to
the report, the December decrease reflected a 0.5 per cent m-o-m plunge in durable
goods inventories and a 0.3
per cent m-o-m drop in nondurable goods inventories.
In y-o-y terms, wholesale inventories slipped
0.1 per cent in December.
