UK grocery inflation accelerated in September - Kantar

Data released by market researcher Kantar showed that in the four weeks to Sept. 29 grocery price inflation increased to 2% per annum compared to 1.7% in the previous 4 weeks.

According to the report, the largest price increases were recorded for products such as chilled soft drinks, chocolate confectionery and skin care. Meanwhile, the largest price drops were recorded for household paper products, dog food and cat food.

In September, official data showed that the UK CPI rose by 2.2% per annum in August after a similar increase in July. The September CPI data will be presented on October 16.

Kantar data also showed that in the four weeks to Sept. 29 food sales increased by 2.0% per annum in value terms, slowing down compared to the previous 4-week period (+3% per annum).

The report also noted that in the 12 weeks to September 29, online supermarket Ocado was again the fastest growing grocer with sales up 10% per annum, taking its market share to 1.8%. Meanwhile, Tesco recorded sales growth of 5.2% per annum, while its market share increased to 28.0%.
