U.S. consumer inflation expectations increase to 3.0 per cent in November

The New York Fed announced on Monday that the U.S. consumer inflation expectations for the year ahead increased to 3.0 per cent in November from 2.9 per cent in October. 

According to the report, the anticipations about year-ahead change in the cost of a college education surged by 1.0 percentage point to 6.7 per cent while those for the cost of medical care increased by 0.2 percentage point to 6.0 per cent. Meanwhile, the expectations for year-ahead changes in the cost of gas and food decreased by 0.5 percentage point each to 2.7 per cent and 3.8 per cent, respectively, while those for rent slipped 0.2 percentage point to 5.7 per cent.

Elsewhere, home price growth expectations held steady at 3.0 per cent. 

The report also showed that the three-year-ahead inflation expectations rose to 2.6 per cent in November from 2.5 per cent in October, while the five-year-ahead inflation expectations advanced to 2.9 per cent from 2.8 per cent in the previous month.
