The latest figures from the Ministry of Employment showed that in October the number of unemployed increased by 1.04% m/m or 26,769 people - the weakest increase for October since 2006, excluding 2021-2022 due to the effects of the pandemic - to 2,602,054 people, while economists had expected an increase of 26,500. On an annual basis, the number of unemployed decreased by 157,350 people or by 5.70%.
Compared to September, the number of unemployed decreased in the construction (-1,676 or -0.85%), but increased in the industry (+1,547 people or +0.77%), in the agriculture sector (+1,603 or +1.87%), in the services (+22,332 or +1.21%) and in the group with no previous employment (+2,963 or +1.23%).
Unemployment among women increased by 13,873 or 0.89%, to 1,567.61, while unemployment among men rose by 12,896 or 1.26%, to 1,034,443. Unemployment among youth under the age of 25 increased by 8,361 people or 4.35% compared to September.
