Eurozone investor sentiment deteriorated sharply in July

Figures from the Sentix showed that the eurozone investor sentiment worsened in July, recording the first drop in the last 9 months, and reaching its lowest level since March.

The investor confidence index fell to -7.3 points from 0.3 points in June, while consensus estimates suggested a decline to -0.6 points. The poll of 1,140 investors was conducted between July 4-6.

The economic expectations index fell by 8.5 points to 1.5 points. It was the first drop in the last 10 months. Meanwhile, the current situation index declined to -15.8 points from -9.0 points in June.

Sentix said that investors are not only concerned about the elections in France. "In Germany, too, investors are slowly focusing on the state elections. In addition, there is growing irritation about the health of the incumbent US president and the unanswered question of who will ultimately run against Trump in the race for the White House. The uncertainty is creating a kind of vacuum, especially as the slowdown in the US economy is also progressing and beginning to spread to the rest of the world", - Sentix added.

Meanwhile, the investor confidence index in Germany fell to -19.0 points from -12.5 points in June. The economic expectations index fell to -4.8 points from 2.3 points in June, while the current situation index fell to -32.3 points from -26.3 points in June.
