Bitcoin prices slipped further to around $19,000 per coin after many unsuccessful bullish attempts to push prices above the important support level at $21,600. Some time needs to pass in order for prices to go deeper and push through the psychologically important level of $19,000 that was the peak of the previous upside cycle. Prices are striving to return within the divergent wedge that emerged in August. In other words, Bitcoin prices are looking for ways to slide to the next $14,000 support level, while keeping a downside momentum.

August Non-Farm-Payrolls expectedly tuned out to be not very positive. The booming labour market in the United States has started to cool down, making the Federal Reserve (Fed) less likely to accelerate interest rate hikes during its next meeting later in September. The unemployment level in August jumped from 3.5% to 3.7%, while the average hourly earnings slowed down from 5.6% to 5.2%. This would enable corporates to hire employees more easily without offering significant wage rises.

Last week ended up on the negative note despite the overall positive tune just before the release of the U.S. Labour market report for August, and a stronger than expected Non-Farm Payrolls report that showed 315,000 new jobs were created during August. Even though the number of jobs created turned out to be more than expected the rising unemployment level reached 3.7% for the first time since January 2022. This small increase in unemployment is not a big deal as the nominal employees’ earnings are rising and are considered to reflect increases in real wages by employees themselves.

Polkadot’s DeFi protocol Acala has suffered greatly after coming under attack. Hackers minted 1.2 billion aUSD native stablecoins, causing a drop of 98%. The Acala team is struggling to eliminate Depeg problems, but the situation remains unstable. Inglorious Tornado Cash, that helps obfuscate the origins and destinations of cryptocurrency transactions making them hardly traceable, has been blacklisted by the U.S. Treasury. It is an open-source software based on Ethereum blockchain, and not the company.
