Consumer confidence in France declined sharply in November

According to the report from INSEE, in October, the consumer confidence indicator fell to 90 points from 94 points in October. Economists had expected the index to remain unchanged. The latest reading was the lowest since June. The index also remains below its long-term average (100 points).

INSEE said that the index, which evaluates the opinion of households about their future financial situation, fell by 5 points to -13 points. The index reflecting the opinion of households regarding their past financial situation decreased by 1 point, to -23 points. The balance of opinion regarding the opportunity to make major purchases fell by 1 point to -30 points. Meanwhile, the index assessing the opinion of households regarding their current ability to save decreased by 1 point, to 17 points. The balance of opinion related to their future ability to save fell by 2 points, to 11 points.

The data also showed that the households' opinion on past and future standard of living in France has deteriorated again. The balance of opinion corresponding to past trends has fallen by 2 points and the one corresponding to future trends has decreased by 8 points, standing at its lowest since October 2023. Both balances remain well below their long-term averages.
