EUR traded mixed against other major currencies in the European session on Thursday as investors awaited the announcements of the outcomes of the European Central Bank’s latest policy meeting later in the day.
The single European currency rose versus CAD, fell versus CHF and AUD, and changed little versus USD, GBP, JPY and SEK.
Expectations are for the ECB to deliver a 25-basis-point cut to its key policy rates when it announces the decisions made by its policymakers at today’s gathering at 12:15 GMT. It would be the third straight rate reduction by the ECB this year.
Markets will scrutinize the ECB’s policy statements and the following remarks from its president Cristine Lagarde for hints on further rate moves as the euro’ area's inflation rate fell below the central bank’s 2% target in September and business activity deteriorated.
