Bloomberg reports that China's premier Li Qiang will announce an ambitious 2024 gross domestic product (GDP) growth target of “around 5%” when the country's highest legislative body - the National People's Congress (NPC) - holds its meeting this week.
Economists polled by Bloomberg project the Chinese economy to grow about 4.6% this year.
Along with the GDP growth guidance, Li will also outline other targets of key economic mertics, including the fiscal deficit. Economists forecast China's budget deficit to shrink to 3.28% of GDP this year.
The NPC's meeting will begin tomorrow and will continue through Monday.
