Crypto Week: How Long Will Positive Sentiment Rule the Market?

The crypto market went through a sudden rally. On Friday, short positions for $640 million were closed and most of the explanations for these actions, however, do not stand up to any criticism. Some “analysts” insist that FTX founders found $5 billion in assets to pay the affected clients of the failed crypto exchange. However, these funds are in tokens like FTT and SOL which lost almost 100% of their prices during the recent market correction. So, these “assets” will not compensate the damage.

Weekly Summary: Powell Was Silent, Prices Are Down

This week ends on a very positive note as the SS&P 500 broad market index rose by 2.3% to 3979.0 points, U.S. 10-year Treasuries yields are down to 3.43% from 3.56%, while the Dollar lost almost 2%. The market gained some inspiration after the Chairman of the Federal Reserve (Fed) Jerome Powell did not make any hawkish statements during his speech during the Sveriges Riksbank symposium in Stockholm. He just reassured the audience that the Fed would adjust its monetary policy to inflation.

Crypto Week: Free Token Hunting Season Has Begun

There is now little motivation in the market to buy crypto assets amid rising yields on traditional low risk debt. The crypto market rallied when the Federal Reserve (Fed) delivered its ultra-soft monetary policy, pushing bond yields to the negative zone. Prices on crypto assets fell when the monetary watchdog announced that it would be curbing its quantitative easing program. The same situation was seen in 2018. Now the Fed announced it is going to hold interest rates high throughout 2023. So, any rally in the crypto market could hardly be expected in the foreseeable future.

The Christmas week seems to be ending without a festive mood. The S&P 500 broad market index is slowly losing ground as it is declining by a modest 0.8% to 3825 points. However, the loss was felt more during the week as it touched 3763 points or 2.0% below last week’s close. The U.S. stock market tried to recover at the beginning of the week but failed after the publication of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures for the third quarter of 2022. The 3.2% rise quarter-on-quarter surprised markets as only 2.9% was expected.

Crypto Week: Investors Don’t Only Lose Money From Trading in the Crypto Market

Binance decided to delist Mithrill Cash (MITH) project and remove it from trading. MITH has subsequently asked for the return of 200,000 BNB tokens collateral that was deposited with Binance. The capitalisation of the failed project is estimated at $6 million, while the collateral is now worth $54 million. The issue is that this amount of BNB was around $1 million at a time when the deposit was made in 2018.
