Mexico’s industrial output jumps in September

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía, INEGI) reported on Monday that Mexico’s industrial output jumped 0.6 per cent m-o-m in September after an unrevised 0.5 per cent m-o-m fall in August. This represented the strongest monthly increase in industrial production since May (+0.7 per cent m-o-m).

On a y-o-y basis, however, industrial production declined 0.4 per cent in September, following an upwardly revised 0.4 per cent drop (from -0.9 per cent) in the previous month.

Economists had predicted a flat y-o-y performance for September.

According to the report, industrial output declined in mining (-4.5 per cent y-o-y) and construction (-2.3 per cent y-o-y) but increased in manufacturing (+0.8 per cent y-o-y).
