European Central Bank Governing Council member Peter Kazimir said on Monday that he is confident that the disinflation path in the Eurozone is on a solid footing. However, he stressed the need to see further evidence of a sustainable return of inflation to the ECB's target.
Kazimir added that the ECB's policymakers will be in a strong position to continue the easing cycle if incoming data confirm an accelerated pace in disinflation.
The official also noted that if new data indicate higher inflation, the ECB can slow down the pace of rate cuts in the coming meetings.
In addition, Kazimir said that the ECB's decision to reduce its interest rates in October leaves the December meeting wide open, adding that all options remain on the table for the central bank's final meeting of 2024.
