GBP fell against most of its major counterparts in the European session on Monday as investors eyed remarks from Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey later this week.

The BoE’s boss is scheduled to deliver as many as four speeches between October 22 and October 26, with one coming each day. On Tuesday, Bailey will give a keynote address at the Bloomberg Global Regulatory Forum. On Wednesday, he will take part in a conversation with Tim Adams at the Institute of International Finance annual membership meeting. On Thursday, the BoE’s chief will participate in Mike Gill Memorial Lecture at the CFTC. Finally, on Saturday Andrew Bailey will address the G30 39th Annual International Banking Seminar hosted by President Ilan Goldfajn, Inter-American Development Bank ‘The future of money and payments’.

Investors will scrutinize all his comments for clues on the pace at which the British central bank intends to ease monetary policy. Should Bailey hint at a more aggressive approach to interest rate cuts, the pound could face more downward pressure.

Additionally, Thursday's release of the UK’s PMIs could impact markets' bets on the BoE’s rate path.
