Consumer confidence in Italy unexpectedly increased in September

Figures from the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) showed that in September the consumer confidence index rose to 98.3 points from 96.1 points in August. Economists had expected a drop to 96.0 points. The current confidence climate improved from 96.3 to 99.0, the personal one from 93.8 to 96.3, the future one from 95.7 to 97.4 and, finally, the economic one from 102.3 to 103.9.

The data also showed that the economic sentiment indicator rose to 95.7 points from 94.7 points in August. The manufacturing confidence climate fell to 86.7 from 87.0. The construction confidence climate fell to 101.9 from 103.3. The market services confidence index rose to 100.6 from 98.0, and the retail trade confidence index improved from 101.5 to 102.3.

According to the latest forecasts of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, presented yesterday, Italy's GDP will rise by 0.8% in 2024 - against 1% in 2023 - and by 1.1% next year. Meanwhile, inflation in Italy should go from 5.9% in 2023 to 1.3% in 2024 and 2.2% in 2025.
