Reuters reported its latest survey revealed that an 81%-majority of economists it polled between August 8 and 13 expect the European Central Bank to decrease its interest rates two more times this year.
According to Reuters, 66 of 81 polled forecast two additional 25-basis-point-rate cuts to come at the ECB's policy meetings in September and December. These steps would take the central bank's deposit rate to 3.25%. In the agency's July poll, 69 of 85 economists polled, or 81%, predicted two more reductions.
Meanwhile, five economists, or 6% of all polled, anticipated only one additional cut this year and eight (10%) see three.
