Eurozone consumer price growth slowed in June

The final data published by Eurostat showed that consumer price growth slowed last month, confirming experts' forecasts and preliminary estimates. Meanwhile, core inflation stabilized in June.

According to the report, the consumer price index rose by 2.5% per year, as expected, after an increase of 2.6% per year in May. European Union annual inflation was 2.6% in June, down from 2.7% in May.

Meanwhile, on a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose again by 0.2%, confirming economists' forecasts. This was the fifth increase in a row, but the weakest in this series.

Eurostat reported that the core consumer price index - excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco - rose by 2.9% per year, as expected, after a similar increase in May.

The data also showed that the largest contribution to the annual inflation was made by services (+1.84%), food, alcohol & tobacco (+0.48%), non-energy industrial goods (+0.17%) and energy (+0.02%).

The lowest annual rates were registered in Finland (0.5%), Italy (0.9%) and Lithuania (1.0%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Belgium (5.4%), Romania (5.3%), Spain and Hungary (both 3.6%). Compared with May, annual inflation fell in seventeen Member States, remained stable in one and rose in nine.
