UK’s new PM Starmer: The country has voted for change and a return of politics to public service

Delivering his speech outside 10 Downing Street, the UK’s new prime minister Keir Starmer stated that the achievements of his predecessor PM Rishi Sunak should not be "underestimated by anyone" but "the country has voted for change and a return of politics to public service." He also indicated that he starts with the "simple acknowledgement that public service is a privilege."

In addition, Starmer noted that "the lack of trust can only be healed with actions, not words,” and pledged to "rebuild Britain with wealth created in every community."

However, the PM warned that “changing a country is not like flicking a switch". "This will take a while," he said. "But have no doubt, it will begin immediately.”
