A
report from the Centre for Sociological Research (Centro de Investigaciones
Sociológicas, or CIS) showed that consumer confidence in Spain improved solidly
in March, hitting a seven-month high.
According
to the report, the consumer confidence index (CCI) jumped by 4.0 points (or +5.1 per
cent m-o-m) to 82.5 in March from 78.5 in February. This was the highest
reading since July 2023 (94.4) but remained below the 100-point threshold, indicating
pessimistic perceptions.
The
March increase in the headline index reflected a surge of 5.3 points (or +7.5
per cent m-o-m) in the Current Situation Index, the indicator measuring
consumer’s assessments of the current situation, to 76.0, and a climb of 2.8 points (or +3.2 per cent m-o-m) in the Expectations Index, the
measure of consumers’ expectations, to 89.1. Both gauges reached their highest levels
since July 2023.
